Background / Education

Mark D. DuBiel was born in Arizona and raised in the Valley where he attended Sunnyslope High School, developing his ties with the Valley community. After graduating high school, Mark attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ where, in 1992, he graduated cum laude, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Economics. That same year, Mark attended the Rogers School of Law at the University of Arizona, earning Dean's List honors in his very first semester as a law student. In addition to the overwhelming amount of required course work and study, Mark managed to extern for the Honorable J. Carruth and intern with the United State's Attorney's Office. Mark's summers were no vacation, either, as he clerked for several prominent Valley attorneys when not in school, externing, or interning. Mark graduated law school in 1995 and returned to Phoenix to pursue his career.

Experience

Mark worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Cheryl Hendrix, dealing primarily with criminal cases. During his clerkship, the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office recognized Mark’s talents for criminal law and offered him a position. Mark accepted and fervently represented thousands of defendants in cases ranging from misdemeanor DUI to homicide. Each case provided Mark with invaluable courtroom experience, such as jury trial skills and strategies as well as exposure to the “canned” procedures used by the State in its predictably choreographed prosecutions.

In 2001, Mark departed from the Maricopa County Public Defender's office to embark in private practice. Utilizing the skills he learned as a Public Defender with his Valley knowledge, Mark dedicated his practice exclusively to the defense of the criminally accused with an emphasis on DUI Defense. For the past 9 years, Mark has successfully defended hundreds of DUI cases in Justice, Municipal and Superior Courts, Valley-wide. Additionally, Mark has endeavored to embrace diversity by acting as local defense counsel for several international criminal law cases. Mark’s diverse group of clients have included professional athletes, prominent members of the community, and high-profile media cases. Finally, Mark has recently become an Adjunct Professor of Law for the Phoenix School of Law in their "Trial Advocacy" section.

Tactics and Strategies

Mark’s philosophy on criminal defense combines personal service with aggressive representation. He has committed himself to providing candid and personal service to his clients while refusing to relent to the often over eager prosecution by the State. Excelling in DUI defense, Mark consults with prominent local and national forensic experts in the field of blood and alcohol testing to ensure the protection of his clients' rights. Specifically, Mark has been able to expose glaring flaws and technical inaccuracies of the State’s cases, achieving numerous DUI dismissals and Not Guilty verdicts as a result.

Maintaining an Edge Through Constant Education

In an effort to stay abreast of the most current laws, procedures, and tactics, Mark has actively participated in the following organizations over the past 12 years who focus on defending the rights of the accused, including: Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National College for DUI Defense. Using the resources from these organizations, Mark infuses over a decade of experience with an unrelenting dedication to defend all who are accused of crimes in the State of Arizona.
